Alta Haywood Allen, age 81, of Mt. Gilead died Monday, August 2, 2010 at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle.
Mrs. Allen was born July 18, 1929 in Mt. Gilead, NC, the daughter of George Arthur and Wincie (Blake) Haywood. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy and a retired beautician. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar, Dudley and G.A. Haywood, Jr; three sisters: Lannie H. Haywood, Ina H. Haywood and Della Mae H. Tedder; one great-grandson: Aaron Allen.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years: Thurman Allen of Biscoe; one daughter: Christy Allen of Mt. Gilead; one son: David Allen (Pamela) of Mt. Gilead; one sister: Stella H. Garner of Mt Gilead; grandson, William Watson of Robbins, granddaughter, Jane Watson of Mt. Gilead, grandson, Chad Allen of Albemarle, granddaughter, Heather Allen Snuggs of Mt. Gilead; great-granddaughters, Caroline Snuggs and Isabella Saunders, both of Mt. Gilead, great-granddaughters, Abby Lavoie and Ashlyn Allen, both of Albemarle.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy, NC. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Troy, 401 E. Main Street, Troy with Dr. Phillips McRae officiating. Burial will be in Haywood Family Cemetery, Chip Road, Mt. Gilead.
