Richard F. "Dick" Zeller, 86, died at home in Des Moines on Thursday, September 30, 2010. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 4 at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Dick was born on August 21, 1924 in Burlington, IA to Orville and Ida (Kling) Zeller. He grew up in Des Moines where he graduated from North High School in 1942. Following graduation he went to work for Solar Aircraft. In 1945, he and his brother, Bob, became partners in Zeller Brothers Tool and Die Business which they owned for 50 years until retirement in 1995.
Dick was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Masonic Home Lodge and a member of the York Rite. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Those left to cherish Dick's memory include his wife of 58 years, Alice Zeller of Des Moines; three children, Michael (Colleen) Zeller of Madrid, Thomas Zeller of Joplin, MO and Wayne (Lynn) Zeller of Viroqua, WI; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy; parents, Orville and Ida Zeller; brother, Bob; and sister, Dorothy.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Immanuel United Methodist Church or the Animal Rescue League.
