Annie H. wife of Josiah GREENWELL, and daughter of the late George B. GOUGH, of Monroe county, MO, died in peace with full assurance of a blissful immortality on January 31st, 1892, aged 28 years 2 months and 28 days. A devoted husband, two children, an afflicted mother, four brothers, three sisters and a host of relatives and friends mourn their loss. Her parting message to them was one of consolation. Bidding them good bye she said: "Don't grieve for me, I will soon be at rest and believe I will be happy." She retained perfect consciousness to the last. Amiability of disposition, refinement of manners and intelligence were characteristics which adorned her life and these traits were crowned for one far superior. Religious devotion. She was an humble, patient christian, I remember hearing her give an account of her sufferings two years ago when she had a very severe attack of Lagrippe, causing the loss of her right eye, which had to be extracted. "I don't believe," said she "that I could have endured the torture had I not looked upon the Cross and thought of the suffering of my redeemer. I thought the loss of an eye was nothing compared with the agonies He had endured for me. This gave me courage and I felt resigned." Her resignation to the divine will under all circumstances is worthy of imitation. May she rest in peace.
To her counsels pay ever the highest regard. Her warfare is over, her trials are ended And brighter were her hopes of the promised reward.
She kept the true faith ever true and unshaken So great was her love for her crucified Lord, And may we not hope the bright crown awaits her For those who have loved him and trusted His Word?
Guard well the treasures she has left in your keeping. The dear little ones, may they never forget .
The prayer of their mother, Oh Father protect them, And know that she loves them and prays for them yet.
Think not that the soul when released from its prison Ever ceases to love the dear friends they have known
More pure and more perfect and yet without ceasing Their prayers like incense ascend to the Throne.
