Henry was a Civil War veteran, serving with the 56th Virginia Infantry and was surrendered at Appomattox in 1865. He was a wagon builder, coffin maker and built a large amount of furniture. After the death of his wife, he lived with his son Lacy Walter Rush in Brookneal until his death.
