Lacy Rush died in Brookneal, Virginia on a Monday night at the age of 69 years. He had been in poor health for about three years but his death came as a sudden shock to his family and friends. He came to Brookneal many years ago as a young man and was joined by his parents. He and his father entered the furniture and undertaking business here. This business was later dissolved and he entered the milling business which he continued to operate for many years. He established the first electric plant to furnish lights and power for Brookneal and this formed the nucleus for the present efficient electric service which he turned over to the forerunner of the Virginia Public Service Company.
Lacy was one of the leading citizens of Brookneal, always displaying an active public spirited interest in the welfare and progress of his town and community. He was a member of the Brookneal Methodist Church and was a Mason.
