Practiced medicine in Murfresboro. Along with his brother Jamed Edwy Wendel he
was a charter member of Rutherford County Medical Association.

He served as a surgeon in the Confederate Army, working in hospitals in Dalton,
Georgia, Forsythe, Georgia and Columbus, Mississippi.

While in Columbus, Mississippi his wife and children were given safe passage to
be him. He was paroled after the surrender in Columbia on 16 May 1865.
