Henry served in the cavalry during the American Revolution before being ordained as a Baptist Minister. He was ordained 11 Sep 1785 at Pipe Creek, SC. Married Frances Tanner on 13 Apr 1786. In 1788, Henry was a delegate to the SC Convention to ratify the US Constitution. Between 1795-99, he founded Beaufort College in SC. He recieved honorary degrees from SC College & Brown U. in 1800. Organized Savannah (GA) Female Seminary in 1801. Appointed pastor of the First Baptist Church of Philadelphia in 1811. Founded the PA Peace Society in 1822.
