Henry served in the cavalry during the American Revolution before being ordained as a Baptist Minister. He was ordained 11 Sep 1785 at Pipe Creek, SC. Married Frances Tanner on 13 Apr 1786. In 1788, Henry was a delegate to the SC Convention to ratify the US Constitution. Between 1795-99, he founded Beaufort College in SC. He recieved honorary degrees from SC College & Brown U. in 1800. Organized Savannah (GA) Female Seminary in 1801. Appointed pastor of the First Baptist Church of Philadelphia in 1811. Founded the PA Peace Society in 1822. There is a tablet about him on the church at 17th & Samsom Sts. in Philadelphia.In Rev War
