John McNutt, Jr. was the son of John McNutt, Sr. and Katherine Anderson. Based on the data on his gravestone below, he was born in ABOUT 1763. John married Mary Laird on 13 Aug 1807 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. No known children.

The Virginia Telegraphe dated Sat 15 Aug 1807 begins: Married - On Thursday, Mr. John M'Nutt to Miss Mary Laird, both of this county.

John is mentioned in Book B, Conveyance Records of Catahoula Parish, LA: 141B, 1 Mar 1818 - ISAAC McNUTT, CURATOR OF JOHN McNUTT, DECEASED, vs. John Crane, John Holly, Wm J Clarkson, John J Bowie and John Irving: $795.00 final judgment against defendants... I suspect Isaac is this John's brother.

-Book B: 188B 9 December 1818 - ISAAC McNUTT, Curator of ESTATE OF JOHN McNUTT, deceased vs. John Holley - Judgment $316.00
-Book B: 190B 8 February 1819 - Fleming G. Ballew stands justly indebted to the Estate of JOHN McNUTT deceased in the sum of $133.67 and gives note for same. Morgages house and lot. /s/ F.G. Ballew ... Witness: James Stokes, Robert Nobles

Witness: A.M. Robertson, J.N.B. Thomson

War of 1812 Veteran Buried in Virginia by the Society of the War of 1812 in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Dec 2011 draft compiled by Myron E. Lyman, Sr., lists Ensign John McNutt with the same dates, served in the 8th Virginia Militia Regiment attached to the 2nd Corp d'Elite under Green.

The gravestone transcription was found in The Jackson Memorial Cemetery Survey, Complete to 1960 (which is not complete) by Col. William Couper, surveyed in 1967-68 (copy from Washington & Lee University, Special Collections) page 12. It records the data above (except says 14th of June) and it is next to a monument dedicated to Alexander and Rachel G. McNutt from their daughter, Sarah (McNutt) Sims. My enlarged copy of his gravestone says 13th, not 14th. It agrees with the newly cleaned marker photo by HWH.

Marker says:
