Frederick James was the 2nd child of Carl and Lillian Vollmer. He was born May 1, 1912 in Carrick, (outside of Pittsburgh), Allegheny, PA. In his younger years he lived with his maternal grandparents: Margaret and Joseph Kraus.
On Jul 2, 1936 he married Ernesta Fabre Repetto at St. Ignace, MI. Of this marriage 2 sons were born: James F and Gary.
On Nov 10th 1943, Fred enlisted in the Army. He served his duty during WWII. (Btry D 31st BN FA T/5)
Fred loved the outdoors as did his father and grandfather. He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting.
Fred was my Grand Uncle. I recall him as always smiling and fun to be around. Even at an elderly age he could fold his legs-indian style-and walk across the room. The kids loved his antics. I miss his energy and love for family. Rest peacefully Uncle Fred.
Fred died on Aril 22, 1983 at the age of 71. The cause of death was lung cancer.
