Jesse Wilson "Wilk" Roberts, 93, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at Community Hospital in Anderson, Indiana.

He was born in Pendleton, Indiana, on March 30, 1917, the son of the late Ardra "Doc" and Charity Mae (Jackson) Roberts.

Mr. Roberts graduated from Daleville High School in 1935.

He was married in Elizaville, Indiana to Mary G. (Thompson) Roberts on June 15, 1941. Mrs. Roberts died on February 13, 2004. He was married to Harriet Spangler in Anderson on July 18, 2004. Mrs. Spangler Roberts survives.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps 1942-1945. Mr. Roberts served as turret gunner and engineer on a B-17 bomber, and, as the sole survivor of his crew, spent 13 months as a prisoner of war in Austria. In 1951 the Roberts family moved to Lebanon, Indiana, where Mr. Roberts worked primarily in the men's clothing business. He eventually was employed by the William H Block Company in Indianapolis, and transferred to Merritt Island, Florida in 1970. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts moved to Indianapolis in 1997. Mr. Roberts resided in Anderson after marriage to Mrs. Spangler Roberts until his death.

As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed his family and their activities. He also enjoyed gardening, playing golf, and was an accomplished bowler in Lebanon leagues. While in Lebanon, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Ulen Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Harriet Roberts, Anderson, Indiana; two sons, Mr. Richard W. "Rick" Roberts and wife, Karen, Indianapolis, Indiana, Mr. Rex M. Roberts and wife, Rita, Boulder, Colorado; four grandchildren, Ellen M. Roberts, Indianapolis, Indiana, Jenna C. Roberts, Indianapolis, Indiana, Paige M. Roberts, Annapolis, Maryland, Brooke J. Roberts, Savannah, Georgia ; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary G. (Thompson) Roberts; brothers, Herschel and William; and sister, Valora Richman.

Services entrusted to Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana.

Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
