Lewis Pence
Lewis Ellsworth Pence, 65, 12399 Kirkwood Road, died Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at Wilson Memorial Hospital. He had been ill about a year.
He was born April 21, 1918 in Champaign County, son or Elba J.W. and Ruth (Comer) Pence.
On December 23, 1939, he married the former B. Maxine Martin.
She survives with three sons Duane L. of Anna; Dan of Port Jefferson; and Douglas L. of Sidney; eight grandchildren and a great grandchild; six brothers, Roy of Piqua, Worthy of Fletcher, Amos of Chandler, Arizona, Leslie of Pamona, California, Selas of Rock Island, Texas, and Elba Jr. of Riverview, Florida; three sisters, Mrs. Opal Sidle of Sidney, Mrs. William (Margie) Patterson and Mrs. Forest (Melba) McCracken, both of Piqua.
A brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Pence was a church member of the First Church of God on Campbell Road. He was owner and operator of a sheep shearing business until his retirement, and was also a breeder and trainer of border collie dogs. He reportedly was the founder of the first 4-H club for herding dogs in Ohio.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home with the Rev. William Bowles officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The family has requested memorials be made to the Shelby County Cancer Society.
