The obituary for Charles C. Newman stated that he was born Jan. 12, 1864, in Pomerania, Germany. When nine years of age he came to America and located in Bloomington, Ill. On Nov. 20, 1890 he was united in holy wedlock to Miss Emma Juhnke, by the sainted Pastor C. F. W. Sapper of Bloomington. For several years they lived in Bloomington and Lincoln. Since 1897, they have resided in Prairie township. Five children were born to them, two boys and three girls of which two twin girls preceded their father in death at the tender age of five months. Mr. Newman was confirmed Feb. 21, 1902 at the Grace Church by Pastor Aug. Werfelmann of St. Paul's church and remained a member of Grace church, serving the congregation on the official board at various times. Surviving were his widow; two sons, Edward of Decatur and Albert of Strasburg, one daughter Viola, wife of Andrew Bullerman, six grandchildren, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, two half-brothers, Herman Koeppke of Bloomington, Albert Koeppke of Strasburg, one half-sister Mrs. Minnie Baumann of Normal and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at Grace Church with Rev. G. A. Schimmel officiating. Interment was in Grace Cemetery. The following served as pall bearers – John E. Weber, Ed Klump, Ed Kull, Ed Baumgarten, Wm. Telgmann and Wm. W. Engel. The flowers were in charge of Eva Falk, Helen Doehring, Laura Spannagel, Gertrude Krile, Ida Ruwe and Ava Jean Griffith.
