He was born October 23, 1911 in Santiago the son of Edward and Minnie (Wenzel) Rubink. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in the Foley area. On September 25, 1943 he and Elaine Pederson were married at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood. After their marriage they farmed near Underwood until 1966 when they moved to rural Clitherall where he was employed by the Ukkelberg Farm. In 1980 they retired and moved into Underwood where they lived until September 1997. They lived a short time in the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center until entering Otter Tail Nursing Home in January 1998.
He was a member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church. He enjoyed farming, gardening, music and dancing. He always looked forward to the Underwood Harvest Festival Parade and delighted in preparing his yard for the occasion. He especially enjoyed spending time and sharing comical conversation with his family and friends and will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, on March 10, 2001.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Perry) Readel of Cavalier, ND and Cheryl Hovland of Durand, Wisc.; three sons, Herman (Mary) Rubink of Underwood, Gerald (Jan) Rubink of Columbia, SC and Ron (Lynda) Rubink of Avon; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mabel Schibonski.
