Brenda Jean Parsons Banks was born at the Alexander Clinic in Forsyth, Georgia, on November 28, 1948, to the parentage of the late Reverend Adolph Parsons and Eleanor King Parsons. Brenda was the second child born into a harmoniously, long-lasting union. She joined her sister, Cheryl Parsons, to ensure the completion of the Parsons Family unit.

Brenda accepted Christ at an early age. She and Cheryl joined the St. James Baptist Church the same night during revival. They were baptized by their doting father, Rev. Adolph Parsons. This was the beginning of a lifelong dedication to Christ. Brenda attended Sunday School, BTU, Vacation Bible School, and sang in the Junior Choir growing up in the church. As an adult, she taught Sunday School, worked in Vacation Bible School, sang in the P & S Choir, Senior Choir, and provided leadership for many programs, for example: Mother's Day and Children's Day. Brenda serviced effortlessly to the St. James Baptist Church and instilled the same values to her children.

Brenda was educated in the Monroe County School System in Forsyth, Georgia. She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1966. Following in her older sister's footsteps, Cheryl, Brenda continued her education at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Sociology in 1972.

It was in Atlanta at Spelman College that she met her future husband, Lathia P. Banks, Jr. as he attended the nearby, Morehouse College. This loving union was blessed with four children: Nabani Banks, Meshari Banks, Myesha Banks and Lathia Banks III.

Brenda completed college during the implementation of President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society. She was ready to serve in an additional capacity. Her first job was with the Voter Education Project, where The Honorable John Lewis served as Director. This was prior to him being elected to Congress from the state of Georgia. Brenda functioned as a Data Analyst. Her job was to collect information from counties in southern states on the number of African Americans voting in each election.

Later, Brenda followed in her parents' footsteps and worked in the field of education. Over the years, she was employed by the Atlanta Public Schools, Bibb County School District, and Sylvan Learning Center. She even drew from her collegiate Sociology major, as she worked for several years as a social worker. Brenda worked in two different nursing homes in Macon, Georgia. Parents, students and administrators always appreciated Brenda's professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent work ethic.

Brenda loved to spend time with her family, cook, shop, sing, play music, look up articles on her cell phone, text inspirational messages and recipes to her family/friends, and watch just about any sporting events, and, as you can see, purple was her favorite color. Brenda never met a stranger, and she allowed her infectious personality to permeate any room that she entered. She walked with a radiance that commanded attention for all the world to see.

Brenda Jean Parsons Banks departed this life on August 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family that never left her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend and Mrs. Adolph Parsons, her sister Cheryl Parsons Jones and her nephew Jason G. Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory four devoted children, Nabani N. Banks, Meshari M. Banks, Myesha Y. Banks-Welch (Darius) and Lathia P. Banks, III, three grandchildren, Kamaya Welch, Kaiya Banks, and Kayson Welch, a grand-niece Jade Jones, a nephew Jonathan G. Jones (Ty), and a host of cousins, friends, and her beloved St. James Baptist Church Family.
