Joshua R. Heeren, 27, of Lanark, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, as a result of a farm accident.
He was born Jan. 21, 1983, in Morrison, the son of Lee E. and Deborah (Van Raden) Heeren. He was a 2001 graduate of Highland Community College; a 2005 graduate of the University of Illinois; and received his master's degree in crop science from the University of Illinois in 2008. He was a member of Milledgeville Community Baptist Church.
Joshua was an agricultural research manager for Monsanto. He also pursued his passion of farming on his family's Centennial Farm. He was an FFA New Century Farmer; excelled in FFA judging contests; held chapter FFA offices; received the state FFA degree from the Illinois FFA Association, the highest award given by the state organization; the American FFA degree from the National FFA organization, the highest given by the national organization; and the Fred Clute Memorial Award in entomology.
Surviving are his parents, two sisters, his girlfriend, his paternal grandmother, his nephew, his niece, and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walter "Bud" and Kathleen Van Raden; paternal grandfather, Lloyd Heeren; and an uncle, David Van Raden.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Lanark United Methodist Church, 405 E. Locust, Lanark, with Pastor J. Kregg Farmer of Milledgeville Community Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Lanark Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Church.
Arrangements were completed by Russell-Frand Funeral Home.
