Candler-Margaret Carleen Cody "Granny Bone" Rathbone, age 87, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at her residence.
She was a native of Polk County and was a daughter of the late Elbert and Alice Clark Cody. She was married to Orville William Rathbone who died in 1976 and was also preceded in death by a son, Raymond Elic "Dutch" Rathbone in 1957, a daughter, Mary Alice Rathbone in 1940 and a grandson, Virgil Meadows, Jr., in 1980. She was a homemaker and worked as a caretaker for the elderly after her husband's death, she retired in 2000 She was a member of Piney Mountain United Methodist Church. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Virgil Meadows and her granddaughter Janet.
She is survived by five daughters and their husbands, Ruby and James Caldwell of Leicester, Hester and Melvin Cagle, Margaret Regina and Virgil Meadows, Evelyn and the late John Meadows, and Sally Katheryn Rathbone, all of Candler, one sister, Betty Robinson of Canton, one brother, Frank Cody of Platka, FL, 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church. Reverend Jerry Denham and Reverend H. D. Houck will officiate. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton. At other time, the family will be at the home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
