CHATHAM - Marvin S. "Buster" Rakes, 86, of Chatham died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at St. John's Hospice.
He was born November 9, 1923, the son of Roscoe and Lena Lancaster Rakes. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Rakes.
Buster married Bonita Van Huss on February 11, 1949 and she preceded him in death on April 7, 1994. He later married Joan Ellis on August 23, 1997.
Buster was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Springfield. He was a farmer in the Chatham area. Served on the Board of Lick Elevator and was a member of Sangamon County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; one son, Allan (Joan) Rakes of Chatham; two grandchildren, Natosha and Joshua; two great-grandchildren. Olivia Drabing and Koltyn Rakes; one sister, Betty Prill of Virden; one brother, Grover Rakes of Waverly; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 till 5 pm, Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn. Services will be held at 10 am on Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Ahlgrim officiating.
Burial in East Cemetery, Waverly.
