A 33-degree Mason. In his passing Clinton has lost a respected citizen who will long be remembered for the good he has done and his family a husband and father whose devotion and loving care have never been excelled.

Curtis attended Eastman's Commercial College of Chicago from which he graduated in May 1866, and in June of the same year came to Clinton, Iowa, entering the grocery business.

In December 1866, he purchased interest in a sash, door and planing factory. A brother, George M Curtis, bought into the a similar interest and together they grew the firm, forming G. M. Curtis & Bros.

The business grew and factories were established at Wausau Wis, Minneapolis Minn, Lincoln Neb, Oklahoma City Okla, and Sioux City, Iowa.
He was also President of the Clinton Saddlery Co and Clinton Furniture Co, Director of the City National Bank, American Wire Fabrics Co and other local organization. He was also involved with the YMCA and other charities.
