LYONS - LaVerne Metcalf, 95, died May 9, 2006, at Lyons District Hospital.
She was born Aug. 26, 1910, in rural Lyons, the daughter of Edward Alva and Eula Kate Alter Shumway. She graduated from Lyons High School and attended Sterling College. A lifetime Lyons resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, Faith Branch of United Methodist Women, Queen Esther Chapter No. 32 Order of the Eastern Star and was a charter member of the Athenaeum Club, all at Lyons.
On May 7, 1929, she married Herbert Metcalf in Kingman. He died Feb. 7, 1978.
Survivors include: a daughter, Barbara Archer, Santa Rosa, Calif.; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bernice McDermott; and two grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Lyons Municipal Cemetery, with the Rev. Cindy Watson presiding.
