Clarence M. Klachko 1919-2010

STREATOR — Clarence M. Klachko, 91, of Streator, died Friday, Oct. 29. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. A prayer service will be at 4 p.m. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Full military honors will be conducted by members of Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. Pallbearers will be William and Stephen Arbogast, Terry and Keith Stevens, Brian Thompson and Jason Hogan. Honorary pallbearers will be Michelle Baragona, Christine White and Kelsey Thompson.

Born Jan. 2, 1919, in Streator, he was the son of Stefan and Mary (Sabol) Klachko. Clarence and Cecilia J. Klein were married on Nov. 21, 1945, at St. Stephen's Church by the late Monsignor Louis Biskupski. Cecilia died Sept. 18, 1991.

He is survived by a son, Michael C. Klachko of Streator; daughters, Dianne (William) Arbogast of Normal, Karen (Brian) Thompson of Heyworth and Marie (Terry) Stevens of Ransom; grandchildren, Jason (Sharon Pitteri) Hogan of Palo Alto, Calif., Michelle (Andy) Baragona of Bloomington, Kelsey Thompson of Heyworth, Keith (Mindy) Stevens of Streator, Stephen Arbogast of Washington and Christine (Marc) White of Bloomington; one great-grandchild, Owen Ritter and another due in December; and numerous nieces and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Margaret Hozie; and brothers, John, Edward, Alvin and Steve Klachko.

Born and raised in Streator, Clarence attended St. Stephen's Grade School. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He served with the 933rd Field Artillery Battalion of the 5th Army. He fought campaigns in Italy, France, Germany and Central Europe.

He worked through the years for Owens Illinois Glass in the forming department, retiring in 1981 after 42 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Church and currently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He also was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Association, St. Clement's Society and the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council 790.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
