In memory of / FREDERICK LACY DICK / the fourth son of Samuel and Mary Sherson Dick, / of Uppermount Bonchurch, Isle of Wight. / He was Magistrate of the District Court of Negambo [sic], / in the island of Ceylon / and in the evening of the 29th August, 1847, / was assassinated in the 32nd year of his age, / leaving a widow, / who four months afterwards gave birth to a son. / Accompanied by a few of the Police / he went to a lone house in the country / to recapture a notorious criminal, / whom the native Police feared to encounter, / and was shot through a window by an unseen hand. / He was an upright and zealous Magistrate, / and greatly esteemed within his jurisdiction. / Also FREDERICK LACY DICK,/ son of the above, / born 8th of January 1848, and died at Columbo / 21st of March, in the same year. / Also ADELINE, born 30th March, 1847, at Negambo [sic], / and died 6 days after her birth.
