Edward Lewis Cyrus, 81, of Brooks went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 26, 2010 at his home.
Born December 25, 1928 at Hinton he was the son of the late Hiram H. and Ruby V. Scott Cyrus. He was a patriotic person, who served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army, Ed and his wife Mary both accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior in 1953 at the Brooks Baptist Church where he served as deacon for over 50 years and as Sunday School Superintendant and teacher, retired from the C&O Railroad where he worked as a clerk with 38 years of service, loved gardening and supplying all of his friends with vegetables, hunting, fishing, WV Mountaineer football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. A dedicated family man he dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild. He was the eldest son of seven siblings.
Preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Mary E. Cyrus on Sept. 20, 2002, one son, Russell E. Cyrus, one stepson, Franklin D. Gill, one stepdaughter, Eva V. Braswell and three brothers, William Keith Cyrus and two twin infant brothers.
Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Virginia Lee Cales of Hinton, Sandra Angell and husband Bernard of Hinton and Helen Eastman and husband Ben of Brooks; one son, Bobby L. Cyrus and wife Teresa of Brooks; one stepson, Arthur S. Gill and wife Ella of Hinton; one stepdaughter, Carole Cox and husband Bill of Hinton; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson; three brothers, Emmett B. Cyrus and wife Barbara of Ocala, FL, Warren C. Cyrus and wife Iris of Bloomfield, PA and Jennings R. Cyrus and wife Mary Ann of Brooks and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Brooks Baptist Church with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Fox Cemetery at Brooks. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors and one hour prior to the services on Monday at the Church.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
