"WELL KNOWN YOUNG MAN DEAD"

"Joseph O. Gilder died this morning at 1:30 o'clock at his home, 903 Fayard street. Mr. Gilder was 38 years and 6 months of age and had been ill for the past several weeks. He was a native of Mobile and resided in this city during the past fourteen years. He leaves a mother, Mrs. R. Gilder, four sisters, Mrs. W. J. Henley, Mrs. James Parker, Mrs. Frank Ible and Miss Nellie Gilder, and two brothers, Henry and Charles Gilder as well as other relatives and many friends along the coast. Mr. Gilder was a young man...good habits and was well liked by all who knew him. The funeral will be held from the late residence of the deceased, 903 Fayard street, tomorrow (Friday) at ten o'clock with interment in the Biloxi cemetery."

Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Records, Book 3, pg 252: Joseph was 38 years, 6 months, 22 days old when he died at 903 Fayard St., from typhoid fever. He was the son of Rufus Gilder and Mahala Pollard, both natives of Mobile, Alabama. He was single and a grocer merchant by trade.
