Royal Sater Dies at 99

Middletown - Royal H. Sater, 99 year old landowner, financier and philanthropist, died at his home at 5 p.m., Feb. 6.

A life resident of Middletown, Sater was born Jan. 14, 1854, the son of Samuel Pottenger and Eleanor Burke Sater. He was married at Middletown to Gail Boyer on Nov. 14, 1917.

Sater was a member of the Presbyterian church, and was widely known for his land holdings and his financial gifts to churches, hospitals, and colleges.

Last rites will be held at the Elliot Chapel in New London, at two o'clock Monday afternoon. The Rev. Malcom Ludy, pastor of the Middletown Presbyterian church, will officiate and private burial services will be held at the Middletown cemetery.
