HAMMOND -- James C. Crumley, 73, of 258 Carroll Street, Hammond, a former resident of Chesterton, died unexpectedly at 12:55 a.m. today at Williamsport Indiana where he was visiting friends.

He was born July 5, 1883 in Chesterton, a son of Thomas and Ellen (Barrett) Crumley. He was a resident of the Hammond vicinity for the past 50 years. He was employed by the New York Central railroad at the time of his death.

He was member of the Unity Council of Knights of Columbus, Abraham Lincoln General Assembly of the 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus, and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, all Hammond organizations.

Surviving are his widow, Barbara (Hoffman) Crumley, of Hammond, one sister, Mrs. Catharine Keegan of Gary, and a number of nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Burns Funeral Home, 5840 Hohman Street, Hammond and at All Saints Church, Hammond, at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Charles Seeberger will officiate.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, East Gary. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday until time of services at the funeral home.
