Russell D. Howland, 79, of Monticello passed away at 2:30 a.m. Monday (Nov. 8, 2010) at the Piatt County Nursing Home.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1930 in Urbana, the son of Lewis and Ada (Perkins) Howland. He was preceded in death by his parents. He married Alma Curtis on May 21, 1955 in Farmer City. She survives.

Also surviving are sons, Robert Lynn (Karin) Howland of Pekin, Richard Lee (Barbara) Howland of White Heath and Russell Dale (Melissa) Howland Jr. of Eagan, Minnesota; grandchildren, Nichole (Troy) Louis, Nathan Howland, Justin Howland, Sean Howland, Russell Dale Howland III, Allison Howland, Kristen Howland and Shannah Howland; great-grandchild, Canaan Louis and brother, Raymond (Yvonne) Howland of Bement.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
