He enlisted in the 136th New York on August 31, 1862 at Nunda, New York, to serve for three years.
He was mustered in as a Private in Company I on September 25, 1862. He was 22 years of age at the time of his enlistment.
He was killed in action at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863.
He was later reinterred in the New York Plot in the Gettysburg National Cemetery in Section B, Site #45.
