WOOLWICH — Ross C. Barger, 75, of Walker Road died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a very long and difficult battle with cancer.

He was born in Richwood, West Virginia on December 17, 1934, a son of Otis and Lela (Kyer) Barger. He was raised in Camden on Gauley, West Virginia and in 1952 he graduated from Cowen High School in West Virginia. In 1978 he retired from the United States Navy and served on 5 carriers, but was most proud of the years served with HAL-3 in Vietnam. In 1974 he moved to Maine and was employed with Bath Iron Works and retired in 2000. Delivered flowers for Westgate Flower Shoppe for 5 years. On October 11, 1997 he married Maryjane Theroux and they resided in Woolwich.

He was an active member of the American Legion Post # 21 in Bath, VFW Post 7175 in Millington, Tenn., the AMVETS in Woolwich, the Fleet Reserve Assoc. in Brunswick and HAL-3 Seawolf Association.

Ross enjoyed his step-children and grandchildren the most. He was a Civil War and history buff who loved to read and eat M & M candies. He liked to collect Military coins, State coins and the Presidential dollar coins. He loves watching baseball (Red Sox's) and the Patriots in his chair that he would only share with the grandkids for a kiss.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathlene Barger in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Maryjane Theroux Barger of Woolwich, step son, Jerald J. Krebs of PA, two step daughters, Elizabeth Veregge, her boy friend Marc Long and four Children Brittany, Kyle, Gordon and Lucas of Freeport and Bobbie-Jo Erskin, her husband Craige and there two daughters Francisca and Aurora of Kentucky, one sister, JoAnn Newell of Brookpark, Ohio, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath with an American Legion Service at 7 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday at the Funeral Home. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath. A gathering of family and friends will follow immediately at the American Legion on Congress Avenue in Bath.
