Charles Leander Nading Jr. was the eighth of thirteen known children of Charles Leander Nading Sr. (1819-1888) and Catherine Clodfelter Nading (1819-1896), who married 22 Jun 1841 at West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. The family (parents and younger children) moved to Kansas in the Fall of 1870.

Charles Leander Nading Jr. married Nancy Serena Strickland (1856-1937) on 19 Nov 1874 at Oswego, Labette County, Kansas. The family spent their entire wedded life in Labette County, Kansas where Charles was a farmer. Charles and Nancy were the aprents of five children, namely:

1. William Henry Nading (1875-1940)
2. Charles Delbert Nading (1878-1968)
3. Joseph Nading (1880-1961)
4. Nancy Jane Nading Phillips (1886-1972)
5. Myrtle Mae Nading Curnutte (1891-1948)
