11 June 1776 - 25 December 1776, Haddam, Middlesex Co., Connecticut: musician, Capt. Cornelius Higgins Co., Col. William Douglas Reg.; battles of Harlem and White Plains.

12 June 1777 - January 1778, Haddam, Middlesex Co., Connecticut: musician, Capt. James Smith Co., Col. Ely Reg.

June 1778 - Nov 1778: sailor & privateer aboard the brig "New Broom", Capt. Israel Bishop; captured off Nantucket Shoals, imprisoned in New York, NY abt. one month then permitted to return home. Capture cited (06 February 1779, The London Gazette), "LIST of Captures and Recaptures made by the American Squadron, of which Accounts have been received by Rear-Admiral Gambier, between the 23d of May, 1778, and the 20/h of December following . . . . . . October 22, By HMS Ariel and HMS Savage. Brig New Broom, 16 Guns, from New London, on a Cruize, stopped off Nantucket Shoals, armed for War, sent to New York, consigned to Mr. Kemble. . . . . "
