He first married Lena May Bausill (b. 1875, MI parents William and Maud Bausill) on February 26, 1895 in Alma, Gratiot County, Michigan. David's first wife passed away on July 30, 1899, while they were living in Sumner Township.
David married for a second time on October 1, 1902 in Ithaca, Gratiot County, Michigan to Victoria Smith. At the time of his second marriage, David lived in Arcada Township, Gratiot County, Michigan and held the occupation of farmer. A year later Victoria conceived a daughter by the name Emeline.
In 1910, David and Victoria were found to live on a farm, they held the mortgage on, in Arcada Township, Gratiot County, Michigan. While David farmed to raise money for his family, their daughter attended school and Victoria kept the house. By 1920, David and Victoria had moved their family to Sumner Township, where David continued to farm. Emeline, now sixteen years old still attended school.
