Ingeborg, the oldest child of Jacob Olsen and Kari Halvorsdatter, was born on her mother's home farm of Veslum, in the Kvikne subparish of Nord-Fron parish, Oppland County, Norway. She was baptized Sunday, 1 Dec 1861, at the Kvikne Church in Nord-Fron. She emigrated with her parents and baby brother Ole in approx. April 1864, and settled near Coon Valley, Wisconsin. She was confirmed at the Upper Coon Valley Lutheran Church 5 Nov 1876, where she was rated "udmærket godt" (outstandingly well) in her studies. The mortality schedule of the 1880 U.S. census, which calls her "Isibell Olson," says she died in Nov 1879, that her attending physician was Wallar, and gives her cause of death as "complaint in brest."

Ingeborg lived at a time when, for most Norwegians, there was no definite answer to what a person's last name was. Ingeborg was also known as Isabel (apparently an Americanized version). Her second name (the patronymic) can be Jacobsdatter, Jacobsen, or Olson. The third element (the Norwegian farm name) has been Veslum and Huskelien (in Norway) and Holen and Lillevold(en) or nothing in America (various spellings for all of these). All of her brothers eventually settled on Lillevold for a last name. Her birth date was 13 Nov 1861 in the Norwegian church book, and her death date was "11/11(?)"/1879 in the Coon Valley church book (and not recorded with the county). I have used the dates from the stone.

There has been a widespread but erroneous story that Ingeborg died on the voyage to America, as a two-and-a-half-year-old.
