Larry Wayne Pelham was born Jan. 28, 1924 in Grapeland Texas to Atmar M. Pelham and Margie Benton Vickery. Larry attended school at the Grapeland Independent school district. After his parents divorce Larry stayed in the care of his father, growing up working on cars and becoming an inventor in his own right. This time of his life brought out his ability to build or fix almost anything.

Larry left Grapeland Texas to attend college at San Jacinto Community College in Pasadena where he received his associates. Larry returned to Grapeland to work for Vulcraft.

He met Lillie Eleanor Barr/ West Broughton in Palestine and soon the two were married. Larry adopted Lillie's daughter Lillene. The family became complete when his son Larry Jr. was born. Larry purchased land out on the county line and built his home from the ground up, cutting down trees and purchasing items a little at a time. His father came to live with him after the house was completed and he stayed until he was moved to a nursing home for constant care.

Larry loved the HAM Radio and he made friends with people from all over the world. Most family vacations were centered around traveling to meet people that Larry spoke with on the HAM radio.

Larry hair went white early in life and many said it was a sign of his underlying illness. He suffered his first stroke when he was very young and although he recovered he continued to experience difficulties from the strokes. He was finally forced into early retirement due to the continued strokes.

Larry was not one to sit still for very long so after retirement he made his beloved farm a Christmas tree farm and it was in operation until two years before his death. He built a number of gadgets to help him around the farm. To this day many are not sure how they work or what some items are for. He also dabbled in bee keeping and wine making but never did anything on a very large scale. After breaking a large wine container that slit his wrist, Larry put the bottles away and never participated again. When he was no longer capable of running the tree farm, Larry cut all the trees down and planted flowers.

Larry had a blockage in his brain and in the last few years of his life he remained in a great deal of pain. He hated his condition and did not want his children to see him in that capacity so he chose to keep everyone away. He spoke to his children over the phone but always seemed to come up with a reason people could not visit. Showing real love was difficult for him but in the last few years he made every effort to show his children and grandchildren that he truly cared for them.

On May 6, 2005 Larry passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was buried not far from his father in Parker Cemetery down by the oak tree. Two grandchildren preceded him in death. Larry left behind a wife, two children, and 5 grandchildren.

May all his sins be forgiven and in his passing may all find peace with the Lord.
