Obit from Messenger of Truth Issue 25, 1982:

Oscar Newton Burns was born to Jacob and Cora Burns on June 24, 1910, in Russellville, Oklahoma. He departed this life on November 13, 1982, reaching the age of 72 years, 4 months, and 19 days.

Dad was blessed with good health most of his life. We are thankful for God's mercy and grace. His departure from this life was swift.

Dad came to Selma, California, in 1945, where he worked hard as a farmer to meet the needs of his growing family. In the early 1960s, after Mother's death, he moved to Delhi, California. Here he worked as a carpenter and in box nailing.

Dad's love for his family ran deep. He seldom spoke or showed it, but often when he spoke, you could see the bright shine of tears come to his eyes.

His parents; wife Gladys; three brothers; two sisters; three daughters: Nina Faye, Vernia, and JoAnn; and one granddaughter preceded him in death.

He leaves: one brother, John; one sister, Charlsia, both of Oklahoma; four sons: Oscar Kenneth Burns of Gilroy, California; Jessie Burns of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jacob Lee Burns of Jones, Oklahoma; Roy Newton Burns, stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky; five daughters: Nadine Jantzen, Ceres, California; Myrna Foursha, Winton, California; Shirley Lewis, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Marilyn Valenzuela, Merced, California; Debra Brandon, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; twenty-six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held November 17, 1982, in the Ivers and Alcorn Chapel, Atwater, California, with Ministers Don Milsap and Jesse Koehn in charge. Burial was in the Winton Cemetery.
