Benjamin R. Bakner, 66 of 3722 Corl Ridge Road, South Mountain, died at 12:01 A. M. Monday, May 3, 1999 in Chambersburg Hospital. In failing health since suffering a stroke in March he was in critical health for a week.

Born Nov 6, 1932 in Fairview, he was a son of the late Benjamin Bakner & Lela Patterson Monn. Raised by his mother and step father, the late Samuel B. J. Monn, he resided in Fairview early in his life.

He worked for Paul G. Kahl delivering coal and fuel oil until retiring in 1976.

A member of Stickell Post 15, American Legion William Max McLaughlin, Post 695, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Order of Owls Nest 1073, all of Waynesboro, he was a life member of Blue Ridge Sportsman Club.

Mr. Bakner served in the U. S. Army and in the U. S. Army Reserves from 1950-1960.

He and his first wife Salley Whitmore Bakner, were married Oct 13, 1951.

He and his second wife Fleda F. Baker Bakner were married on Dec 22, 1973 in Hagerstown, Md. She died on Oct 6, 1998.

Mr. Bakner lived at the Corls Ridge road residence for 28 years.

Surviving are seven daughters, Linda Kiehl of St. Petersburg, Fl., Judy Brown, Bonnie Stine, and Tammy Wagaman all of South Mountain; Victoria Flagle of Thomastown, Penny Rhines of Waynesboro; and Donna D'Amore of Mont Alto, three sons Robert Bakner of Fairview, David Bakner of Waynesboro, and Herman Voss of South Mountain; 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Lawrence W. Patterson and John R. Monn, Sr., both of Fairview and nieces and nephews.

A son, 3 grandchildren, a sister and 2 brothers also preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 P. M. Friday at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro. Pastors Wayne L. Kuhn and Dale R. Mountain will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Quincy Township.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 P. M. Thursday in the funeral home.
