GIRARD, Pa. — Clancy Earl Mitchell Sr., age 83, of Platea Boro and formerly of Franklin Township, Pa., passed away on Monday, June 22, 2009, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Franklin Township, Pa., on Feb. 18, 1926, a son of the late James and Mabel Mitchell and went to school in Franklin Township. He was inducted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, where he served in the 25th Infantry Division, 89th Tank Battalion. While serving in combat operations his tank came under fire and he was wounded in action. He later received the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star. He was a member of the Girard American Legion Post #494.

Clancy spent most of his life farming and doing mason work. He had a great passion for hunting and fishing and his two canine companions, "Bobby and Josie." He will be remembered for his wonderful Christmas trees that he provided to the community. He always enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family. He also enjoyed donating his time and talents to WLD Ranch and the Federated Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dona (Wilson) Mitchell of 48 years; a son, Clancy E. Mitchell Jr.; a daughter, Rosemary Mitchell in infancy; a grandson, Scott Bartlett; one great-granddaughter, Rachael Hope Magoon; five brothers, Harold, Elmer, Raymond, Burton and his twin brother, Chancy Mitchell; and one sister, Viola Willenbucker.

Clancy is survived by five daughters, Joyce (Gary) Bartlett of Conneaut Ohio, Sue (Don) Braden of Cranesville, Cathy (Bob) Fischer and Arlene (Bill) Bailey, all of Girard, Pa., and Judy (Rob) Bort of East Springfield, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Linda Mitchell of North Huntingdon, Pa.; a sister, Lavina Mundkowsky of Girard, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Jeri, Peggy, Tiffany, Amanda, Jessica, Bryan, and Gary; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Clancy's family would like to express their gratitude to the Erie VAMC for all the care and support that their father received during his illness.

Friends may call TODAY, Thursday, June 25th, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at DANIEL R. EDDER FUNERAL HOME, 309 Main St. East, Girard, Pa. Services will be held there on Friday, June 26th, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Paula Marbury officiating. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the WLD Ranch, 7351 Woolsey Road, Girard, Pa. 16417, or to the Platea Fire Department, 10012 Maple Ave., Girard, Pa. 16417.
