Mildred (Millie) Ackley Kennedy, 94, of Hickory, NC, passed away on October 20, 2010. She was the beloved mother of Roberta, Donald (Cathy), and Margaret (Mark) Ackley, who survive her. She is also survived by her twin sister, Madge Rowe (Edwin), ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Mildred was born near Saline, MI and spent the first 89 years of her life in and around the Pinckney, MI area. She and her twin graduated from Pinckney High School in 1934. On December 26, 1936, she married Robert C. Ackley and they settled in Pinckney and raised their family. She worked for Michigan Bell in Pinckney, Howell, and Ann Arbor, retiring after 33 years of service. Robert predeceased her in January of 1987, shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary. Millie spent the next few years traveling and visiting her children. In late 1989, she married Murray Kennedy of Pinckney, who predeceased her in 2005. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Hickory, NC, where she could be close to several members of her family who lived in the area. She was a lifetime member of the Pinckney Chapter 145 Order of the Eastern Star and the Telecom Pioneers, a volunteer organization of retired telephone employees. She also served as the Pinckney Village Clerk for several years during the 1950s and 1960s. She lived her life with dignity and grace, refusing to speak unkindly of others, thus making many lifelong friendships. A Celebration of Life gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Pinckney Masonic Hall located at 210 Mann Street, Pinckney, MI. The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. Cremation occurred on October 21 in Hickory, NC. Millie's final resting place will be at the Pinckney Cemetery, next to her husband, Robert C. Ackley.
