My great grandfather and we believe that he is Joseph Humphrey Nichols, born 1838 in Connecticut. He was elected "act'g sec'y" for the Greenville, Columbus & Birmingham Railroad in 1873, married Sadie Todzwer in Apr 1874 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA. Lived in Dallas, Texas until 1880 where he operated a food and grain store. Moved back to Algiers, Orleans Parish by 1880. After his wife died in 1881 he moved alone to Birmingham, where he committed suicide. He may have served in the Confederate Army.
