OBITUARY

A deep gloom was cast over the neighborhood of Mesquite creek near Bachelor Peak, on Friday morning, August 19, 1898, when it was made known that Mrs. E.A. Fox had died the night before.

In every home there was sadness and in every heart there was grief.

Mrs. Fox, whose maiden name was Hinkle, was born in Middle Tennessee, July 24, 1840, and was married to W.S. Fox, September 8, 1865. They came to Texas about twenty-four years ago to make it their future home, but the Death Angel appeared and removed the husband and father from the walks of men in just ten days after their arrival, leaving her with three small children, when she took back to her old home in a few months and raised them up to be children of whom she was proud.

A few years they all came ta Texas again. The three children are: Mrs. M.L. Higginbotham, who resided with her mother, Mr. B.W. Fox, a well-known farmer of Mesquite, and Mr. J.B. Fox, who is in business at Granger, Texas.

Mrs. Fox was the eldest of a family of fourteen children, and only three survive her, viz: Mrs. William Alexander, of Lampasas county, Mrs. J.W. Allen and Mr. J.M. Hinkle, of Itasca, Hill county. Her husband was an uncle of W.J. Fox, of the firm of Fox & Mills.

It is indeed hard for death to come and rob us of our dear ones, expecially of a mother-the dearest name on earth-yet we must all die, and we know not when. So let us be like her, prepared to meet death calmly.

She professed religion and joined the Lutheran church when young and lived a faithful member up till one year ago, when she united with the Christian church at Kempner. She has been sick for months, and her sufferings were very great, but she bore them with patience. Everything that loving hands could do was done for her.

She was a woman of noble deeds, always ready to help every one, and had a word of encouragement for all. She loved her home, was devoted to her friends and relatives, and worshiped her children and grandchildren.

She was laid to rest at the Mount Pleasant graveyard, Dr. Adkins conducting the funeral services on Sunday afterwards.
