Capt. Mullineaux - Infantry Unit Commander, killed in action in Cambodia during the Vietnam Conflict. The battle that killed Capt. Mullineaux was shown in a film called "Shakey's Hill/The Surge" directed by Norman Lloyd, and recently shown on MIL TV on Nov 12, 2010. This film is about Co B 5th Bn. 7th Cav, and the men who fought on "Shakey's Hill". Barry served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam and after his 2nd tour, he was quoted saying "My job is not done" and he went back for his 3rd tour. He never came home again.

Barry reported to Ft. Benning, Georgia to begin Officer Candidate School (84th Co. OCS) and graduated 13 Mar 1967 as 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Infantry. Although I did not know Barry personally, I've come to know him and what kind of man he was through his Army buddies and their posts on various websites honoring Vietnam Veterans. A strong leader, a well respected man, Barry is still missed by many who served with him. If any of them read this and have a photo of him, please add it here on his memorial.

Preceded in death by his father, John Henry, who was raised in Philadelphia and later lived in Ambler where Barry grew up. Capt. Mullineaux is survived by his mother and by six brothers and three sisters.

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of taps one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

May you rest forever in peace and know you are not forgotten Barry...
