William Mann Stephenson (son of Reuben Stephenson and Sarah Sally Mann) married America Jane Riddle on December 19, 1844 in Boone County, Kentucky. William migrated to Texas about 1847. In making their way to Texas it seems they boated down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to the Gulf, then through Jefferson City and from there overland to Mt. Pleasant, Texas, where they established their home. Their place consisted of 160 acres within the city limits of Mt. Pleasant. William was described in the history of Titus County, Texas as the first manufacturer in that county. He had a shop where he made wagons, mended buggies, wheels, furniture, etc. He was a good workman in either wood or iron. During the Civil War he was retained at home to make spinning wheels, looms, reels, and other supplies for the Confederate Army.
