Norma Jean was born in Buffalo, Oklahoma in 1934. She moved to Toppenish, WA at the age of one with her parents and brother Tex. She graduated from the Toppenish High School with the class of 1952.

After graduating, she moved to the nearby city of Yakima where she worked for the Telephone Company. That is where she met her future husband, Lloyd Cunningham, while he was home on leave from the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, they were married in Toppenish on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1956.

They lived mostly in the Seattle area until transferring to Los Angeles, with the family moving to Southern California over the Christmas Holidays in 1969.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, and their four children;
