In the early 1900's he purchased the land to build the Dodson Hotel in Walnut Cove. It was completed in 1912. Both of his children by Dolly Fair Dodson were born in the Dodson Hotel, as they lived in the Hotel.
Wes Dodson was a commissioner for the Town of Walnut Cove, and after a commissioners meeting in the Lobby of his Hotel on Sept. 23, 1924, he died suddenly of a heart attack.
On June 9, 2013 after standing for 101 years the Town of Walnut Cove, that Mr. Dodson spent much time and energy into improving, chose to demoloish the Dodson Hotel.
