Carl was 3 yrs old when his mother passed away. He was raised by his aunt, Emma Zetta Mays, & uncle, Lafeyette "Lafe" Knight, in the Grant District of Cabell County, West Virginia.

He married Marie Effie Knight on February 6, 1918.
Carl had two sons, William Carl "Bill" Bishop, who was raised by his mother, and Robert Carl "Bob" Bishop, who was raised by Carl & stepmother, Marie.

At some point, Carl and his family moved to Rutland, near Pomeroy, Ohio.
Carl died November 5, 1963, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, in Meigs County. Son Bob was stationed in Germany at that time, but returned home, and shortly thereafter, was granted a hardship discharge from the US Army in order to help Marie raise the 30+ cattle on the farm.
