Benjamin Jackson Jenkins was born near Taylor, Williamson County, Texas. He was the son of Elisha Jenkins and Martha Jane Long.
His father, Elisha, died in the Civil War in the Battle of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana in 1864.Benjamin and his mother continued living in Williamson County. They were enumerated in 1870 in Liberty Hill, living with John and Sarah Russell. No relationship has been proven to this family and no explanation has been determined as for their living with them.
On 9 October 1884, Benjamin married Mollie Hammonds. The marriage was recorded in Travis County, Texas.
Benjamin and Mollie had ten children. Mollie died in 1911 and Benjamin lived 28 more years before dying on 06 February 1939 in Runnels County. He is buried in the Counts Cemetery in northern Runnels County.
