Henry Ward Stratton was born in Panola County, Mississippi on 09 May 1852. He was my great grandfather, the son of James Evans Stratton and Mary Elizabeth Stratton. The family lived in Panola County until 1857. By 1860, they had moved to Bastrop County, Texas. In January 1862, Henry’s father, James Evans, bought land in DeWitt County that bordered the Guadalupe River. James Evans died in 1864 and the family stayed in DeWitt County until after 1870. By 1880, Henry Ward was living in Williamson County, Texas with his mother, Mary, and brother, James.
On 08 August 1882, Henry Ward married Margaret A. “Maggie” Taylor. Maggie Taylor was born January 30, 1866, somewhere in Texas. They raised a large family of twelve children, born between 1883 and 1908. They moved from Williamson County to Brown County, Texas before 1898. There, they lived the remainder of their lives. Maggie died on 21 February 1913 and Henry Ward died 24 April 1924. They both died in Brown County and are buried in the Salem Cemetery, west of Bangs, Texas.
