"William Hepburn, who resided one half mile east of Eugene, died very suddenly one week ago last Monday, March 21, 1892. Mr. Hepburn had started to mill that morning in a two horse wagon, and had not driven over 1/4 of a mile until he was stricken down with paralysis. One of his sons happened to notice the team stopped, and supposing something was wrong, went to his assistance. He was still able to speak and told his son there was nothing the matter with him. His son got him in another wagon and drove back to the house with him and went for Dr. Kinderman.

When the Dr. arrived, he was past speaking. The doctor told the family his whole left side was paralyzed, and that he could not get well. In about 2 hours from the time he was stricken down, he was a corpse. The deceased was 69 years of age, and had been a resident of this county since 1829, moving here with his parents from Bellaire, OH.

During the war he served in Co. K of the 97th Indiana, one among the best regiments that went to the front. The funeral was preached by Rev. W.A. Smith, pastor of the M.E. Church at Perrysville, at his late residence, after which his remains were interred in the cemetery at Eugene, the Grand Army boys acting as pallbearers." - Newport Hoosier State, Wednesday, March 30, 1892 (Obituary was provided by Carolyn Schwab)
