Master Photographer, Special Photographic Consultant for the Eastman Kodak Company. George began his photography career in Wichita with his own studio, then removed to Detroit in 1921 to work for the Arthur Studio. During the depression, he left that position for the career with Kodak, moving to Schenectady, New York. After his retirement, he and his wife, Pearl, lived with his son George Jr. in Hinsdale, IL.

George was named in honor of his mother's father, George Washington Dowell, who died two months before George's birth.

He was a member of the Kansas National Guard in his early years.

His third child, Dorothy Dana Downing Egnell, 1917 - 2000, was cremated and her ashes scattered near Schenectady, NY.
