My mother grew up in the small town of Greensburg. I recall as a child that when she described home back then that they "lived so far back in the woods that you had to pump daylight in." I was reminded how lucky I was to have indoor plumbing and toilet paper when she let it be known they used corn cobs and Sears catalogs.

The family lived only a couple of houses down from her grandparent's. It gave her the chance to know and love spending time with them.

Her youngest days were spent living with those grandparent's since it was the great depression.

One year she received a crochet hook for Christmas. That turned out to be the best gift she had ever received. She learned to crochet and continued through her life crocheting afghan's for everyone.

Sewing was another passion that she had and she made all of my clothes until I reached junior high school.

She and my dad built the house that I grew up in and she was so proud of it. I am thankful for the cleaning habits that I inherited from her. In my younger years, I never had to do house work. I was required to clean up any messes that I made with my toys and I would have to clean my dishes when I wanted to cook. She and my dad both had flower beds in the yard and it was always a little competition with them over whose flower bed was doing the best!

Not only was she my mother, but she was my best friend. She filled our home with love and laughter. If I could only go back in time and sit and talk with her. Those moments we had are the most treasured memories I have of her.
