Born in Towanda, Pa., Mr. Bailey lived in Walnut Cove for most of his life. He served as Republican Chairman of Stokes County and the Fifth Congressional District. He was especially proud of having been instrumental in Sen. Richard Burr's election to the U.S. Congress.
Survivors include wife Carol Bray Bailey of the home; daughters Susan of Asheville and Jennifer of Winston-Salem; son Jack Jr. of Cross Junction, Va.; granddaughter Melissa Greene of Asheville; grandson Jack III of Suffolk, Va.; a sister, Mildred Lavelle, of Liberty, N.Y.; and nephews Robert and Steve Lavelle, also of Liberty.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Stokesburg United Methodist Church in Walnut Cove. The family will meet friends and family immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall. At other times, the family will be at 1590 Hwy. 311 North, Walnut Cove.
The family is most grateful for the wonderful care given to Jack at Hospice in Wilmington. Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Life Care Center, 725-A Wellington Ave., Wilmington, NC 28401, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
